Bohemian New York
Secret Japanese restaurant in LES
Not only is this trendy Japanese restaurant completely hidden from the street (Bohemian is located discreetly behind a Japanese butcher shop in New York’s Lower East Side neighborhood), but it is also housed in a building once owned by Andy Warhol. I love the beautifully decorated and cozy space inside, which also has a small zen garden.
To up the cool factor even more, this exclusive Japanese restaurant is referral-only, and reservations can only be made over the phone after 3pm. (Also, feel free to use my name if they ask you about a referral). Although the reservation process can be annoying, the exclusivity makes the dining experience very special and unique.
Bohemian is also part of a larger organization called Play Earth, a collective of travelers, chefs, bartenders etc. with many other secret locations around the world. I was lucky enough to obtain information about the Bohemian restaurant in Tokyo when I last dined there and was able to eat at the Tokyo location, which is even more exclusive (the address is hidden on Google maps). Who knows where this one meal could take you?
