Politically, women artists can use some support right now. Economically, all artists can use help, all the time. Donald Trump's presidency created reason enough to now ask women playwrights, “What do you think?”
You might not think of going to an Off-off Broadway play while visiting New York, but I think it would be a good idea because good, adventurous theater is what New York’s famous for. Plus, the hits on Broadway will all be coming to your home town soon enough. No need to pay Broadway's high prices --- I’m talking Cats, Lion King, Phantom…, Jersey Boys, Hamilton, Harry Potter and so on.
WP Theater is an Off-off Broadway theater on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and WPs mission is important to know: "develop, produce, and promote the work of women artists (and now female-identifying and trans artists) at every stage of their careers."
Its Artistic Director, Lisa McNulty says “It’s exciting to be leading an institution that has a mission that is beyond just making important work. To focus on providing space for artists who don’t get space elsewhere feels really important me---and it feels particularly important right now.”
A limited number of $25 rush tickets are available 30 minutes prior to show time for buyers who are under 35 years of age. One ticket per person. You can buy a ticket for Hamilton for around $1,000. Or, you can go to 40 Off-off Broadway shows.
There. A few reasons to go, so go.
The WP website tells all.
