During the first week of October 2018 the 72nd Street Station of the IND subway line (B and C Trains) reopened following the completion of its refurbishment.
In keeping with the MTA's artistic policy, this time the walls are adorned with new works by Yoko Ono—clouded blue sky scenes in which are embedded word suggestions such as "imagine peace", "remember love" and "dream".
If you take the train to Strawberry Fields in Central Park, this would be your station. It actually abuts The Dakota, the apartment building in which Ono and Lennon lived, and in which Ono lives today.
I'm reminded by these works that Lennon met Ono at the gallery opening of her London show, and the piece that brought them together. Ono had aimed a telescope at the word 'Yes" posted some distance away. The viewer was required to climb a step ladder to reach the telescope's eyepiece. It was when he ascended that the Lennon/Ono magic began.
But, here you can actually touch the words.
