I am always on the look-out for New York City's best view and let me tell you THIS IS IT! Hidden on Long Island City's waterfront, Anable Basin Sailing Bar & Grill offers amazing views of Manhattans iconic skyline. You can clearly pick out landmarks like the Empire State building, Chrysler building and the United Nations. If you visit at night, you'll have a special treat of seeing the glittering lights reflected in the waves of the East River.
The bar maintains a casual atmosphere, with plastic cups, paper plates, and picnic tables. They offer a selection of beer, wine and cocktails, as well as coffee and soda. The menu has hints of Eastern Europe, offering kielbasa and chevapi alongside hamburgers and hot dogs. There are options for every taste, but I recommend the kielbasa with a draft beer.
Anable Basin is one of the few spots on the East River where you can dock a private boat, so I enjoy watching sailboats come in from time to time. If you feel like getting on the water yourself, the East River Ferry has a stop just south of here (you'll see it sailing by every 30 mins or so).
