The myth of the steep prices in Oslo might be true for visitors. The quest for finding places with cheap beer is important both for myself, locals, and other foreign explorers. Fyrhuset Kuba is my place for this mission. This small bar adjacent to the Vulkan area along Akerselva offers a very laid-back and chill concept. Normally open every day with a plain drinking menu and relatively good prices on beers attract lots of students during the weekdays and local Oslonians during the weekend and summer season.
Are you stopping by on a warm and bright summer evening, be sure that my favorite outdoor garden is crowded with friends and colleagues discussing everything from international politics to daily life matters and next career move. Fyrhuset Kuba gives you exactly what you need to spend some quality time with friends and family, or maybe with somebody that you just met during your visit to Oslo. Inside the bar, there is limited seating and can be crowded during the winter season, as they also offer a game of shuffleboard upstairs on the second floor.
As a perfect place to set off the summer evening in the city, continue by strolling down Akerselva to the downtown area of Bjørvika or Youngstorget, or visit one of the greatest rooftop bars in Oslo, Bar Vulkan, just a few steps away. Be aware though, the clientele might be a bit different from the laid-back atmosphere I prefer at Fyrhuset Kuba.
