Spotter since 2014
I was born and raised in Southern California, but my love of languages brought me to Norway in the early 90s. At the time, I hoped to stay for a year, but I quickly fell for life in Oslo. I've recently returned to Oslo after a year and a half studying in Scotland, and I was thrilled to get the opportunity to rejoin Spotted by Locals so I could share my special Oslo places with others.
Oslo is a vibrant, multicultural city which appeases my need for interacting with all types of people. Having lived in Oslo for over 30 years, I've seen it grow and develop to the extent that much of it is unrecognizable from before.
While Oslo has many ultra-new urban areas that attest to its dedication to creating a sustainable urban environment, there are many other quaint neighborhoods you could wander into and find yourself wondering if they were much the same three or four generations ago. On top of that, you're never really that far from nature in the form of vast expanses of forestlands.
If I could recommend only one place for food lovers to visit in Oslo, it would be Kampen Bistro. I love the atmosphere, the leisurely pace, the food...

"Oslo Mikrobryggeri bar" has been serving up beer brewed on location since 1989, and has basically stayed unchanged since. Its atmosphere is its real quality.

"Café Fiasco" is next to Oslo Plaza and the perfect spot for watching all kinds of stories unfold. It's also one of my favorite burger joints around.

The "View Over Oslo" from the side towards the plateau of Ekeberg, is much better than where most tourists go to, namely Holmenkollen, and the locals know!

It has an open area vibe with plenty of space so that you can be left alone to do as you please. It's also a good spot for a casual meet-up with friends.

"Kampen Økologiske Barnebondegård" just outside Oslo is a quaint farm/petting zoo oasis where kids can interact with animals and learn about farms & ecology.
