This kiosk in Årvoll is one of the oldest kiosks in Oslo. Previously known as Billigkiosken (cheap kiosk) it used to sell goods at reasonable prices. From candies and chocolates to ice cream, sodas, and coffee to go, as well as newspapers, flowers, and handpicked berries in the summer. One of the last kiosks in Oslo known for its amazing hot dogs, rendering itself as an institution in the area. It used to sell maybe the best hot dogs in town, and it had rendered itself an institution in the area. It has also served as a meeting place among adults and children for many years.
Sadly enough, most of the kiosks in Oslo have closed as a result of the expansion of the most commercial and modern type big chains in shopping centers. Billigkiosken stood the test of time as a small family business until a fire caused by one of the refrigerators caused it to close and change hands.
Nowadays, it still serves as a meeting point for sushi on the go on a busy day after work or on a Friday night when you don’t feel like cooking. The new owners have given the traditional hot dog kiosk a new life, ready to serve you with a smile. As much as everyone was saddened that Billigkiosken had to close, we were definitely positively surprised of this transformation. You should give it a try!
