Nested in the popular area of the XX district of Paris, Le Merle Moqueur is an independent bookshop which offers not only the most recent best sellers of French and international literature but also excellent sections on art, youth literature, graphic novels and comic books and engaged and militant books.
The bookshop is hosted in an old car repair shop, which its owner transformed into a welcoming and open space where book presentations, talks and debates take place. Further to this project, the owner started other bookshops in Paris, all named after birds who are happy, like the one you can find in my other entry here: La Muette Rieuse.
This is a very nice space, where you can spend some time glancing through the books, but also looking for nice picture books, special stationery, or simply enjoying the bohemian side of the city. Close to it, the Pere Lachaise cemetery is a must if you are visiting Paris, and the bookshop also offers guides to make the visit more interesting.
