Le Marais is one of my favourite areas of Paris to wander around. This is how I discovered bookshop Les mots a la bouche (Words in the mouth). I like the smell of books that you feel as soon as you step in and the friendliness of the staff. Like many other independent bookshops, they read plenty of the books they have and you can always have a chat about recommendations and novelties.
As an LGTB-focused bookshop it is the best place to look for printed material of any kind related to homosexual and lesbian issues: books, reviews and magazines, but also DVDs and cartoons, everything you may think of is there. They have an English language section and also a website where you can buy and also reserve and collect in the shop.
This is a thematic bookshop but it also has general books. Unfortunately, we have recently learned that the bookshop will soon close as the landlord does not want to renew the lease contract as reported in. It seems that some luxury shop will open instead, a sad effect of gentrification of our beloved Le Marais district. In any case, the bookshop will not close completely, but open somewhere else, so hurry up if you want to see it in its current premises. When we learn where it will move to, we will update the info.
