Herman’s Coffee has brought some excitement to the Pennsport neighborhood, where owner Mat Falco chose to open up shop in a former auto repair and car wash garage. More than just a coffee shop with espresso drinks and yummy pastries from Machine Shop Boulangerie, there is also a store which sells delicacies and condiments, from tins of Porthos Norte Sardines (I know, not for everyone, but I happen to love sardines), to aperitif bitters and cocktail mixes, to homemade salted caramel cookies.
And that’s not all! Take a look at the rotating food truck pop-up calendar on their website and you too will head over there on a Monday night to eat lobster roll sandwiches, or rise by 9 am on a Saturday morning to feast on a Filipino brunch of Tabachoy. Or buy some vegan banana ice cream for later from Vannah Banana.
This is the kind of place where you could go for morning coffee, come back after work for some food truck fare or a tasty roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and provolone from Charlie’s (named after a doberman) next door and then head to the attached beer boutique for a draft and find a good spot to watch a Phillies or Eagles game. That’s a good day in Philly!
