I have seen ice cream done in so many ways so when Sweet Charlie's came to Philly, I knew I had to check it out. They make your ice cream right before your eyes with all of the toppings included. For a flat $ 7 you can get any kind of ice cream or yogurt and all of the toppings you want. It starts as a liquid where they pour it on a cold surface with all of your mix-ins. Then they mix it all together and spread it really thin so it can be rolled. The liquid turns to ice cream so quickly that if you blink you will miss it. Because it is made fresh for each person there is no need to add stabilizers, emulsifiers, and preservatives like other ice cream. Afterward you add as many toppings as you like.
This process is not really anything new since this is how they serve ice cream in Thailand but it is new to the USA. Another unique spin is to get the rolled ice cream in a donut that is shaped like a hot dog bun. Since the ice cream is made in front of you and because of how popular it is, expect a line as I have seen every time I have walked past.
