I decided to write an article related with this place because I like history, and I like it much more when we are talking about the history of my city. The first time I visited this cafe I did it because I wanted to discover the oldest cafe of this beautiful city, called Café Portas do Olival. It is located on Campo dos Mártires street, near the Photography Museum Center.

It’s possible you’ll see some tours guides on the street taking their customers to the coffee shop, because inside it is possible to find a portion of the historical Fernandina Wall from the 12th century. This wall defended the city of Oporto for a long time, but was destroyed with the development of the city and nowadays only some small portions of the wall are still visible.

When I was there, I took a coffee while I was reading the short  summed up history written about the old Fernandina Wall. The coffee shop belongs to a couple who have worked it for the last 40 years, and I really like them because they’re very likeable and they provide a great service.

Café Portas do Olival provide a snack/bar service where one can combine the taste of Portuguese coffee with the culture and history of the city.
