The grocery store O Pretinho do Japão is a local place and a hidden gem of Porto. It was opened in 1947 and it’s a Portuguese place with a lot of history and a super-nice garden that most people don't know exists at all.
On the door you can already see lots of hanging codfish, and, when you get inside, you see a whole world of dehydrated fruits, wines, candies, flours, cookies, authentic Portuguese products, coffees and chocolates, among other things. The place is always receptive and lovely for all ages in its own way. If you're interested, ask some of the staff about their story or about the products, because in this place everyone always has a smile on their face and is willing to help you. Sometimes they can even share some secrets, who knows...
Behind the amazing, typical store, you'll see a sign directing you to their terrace. Just follow this path! On the end of it you'll see a nice, calm place, with good music, sun and tables. Some people go there to work, other just to eat and drink something or read a book in a relaxing atmosphere. So go to this little heaven right in the center of Porto and relax a little bit while drinking a nice cup of hot or ice tea.
