Located on an unremarkable street corner in the Purvciems district, the Thousand Leaves Cafe is a stylish sit-down spot specializing in sweets and deserts yet with other unforgettable food items that will leave you coming back for more.
The busy traffic on Vaidavas street tends to overshadow the cafe as a simple part of the nearby apartment complex. I myself knew little of this place, having only thrown a glance when driving by. A friend who lived close couldn't recommend it enough, though. You could always have a place to sit down, their meat pies tasted great and were a bargain for that price, not to mention the modern decor that always felt clean and put-together. Oddly, I didn't opt for the meat pie when I came to visit, as something else had caught my eye: a honey-cake-inspired dessert. Being a lover of honeycake - a common Latvian sweet dish - I couldn't pass up the chance to try it, and boy it did not disappoint. Coupled with a cup of coffee and a comfy seat cushion, it certainly made my morning.
If you happen to find yourself wondering about Purvciems, perhaps waiting for The Old Petter Pub to open, and are looking for a familiar, high-class cafe experience you'd get in other cities of Europe, the Thousand Leaves cafe should be on your radar.
