Sipping coffee by the theatre? You got it. Right next to the National Theatre of Rijeka, there is a trio of King’s Cafe, Teatro lounge bar and Kod Zajca Wine and Dine bar. They are quite alike from the outside (that’s why I really don’t mind which one I go for), as they all share the view of the theatre, the prices don’t differ much, and the feeling you get is the same.
Teatro and Kod Zajca (commonly called just Zajc) were for a long time nice spots for coffee or drinks, but Kod Zajca recently included gastronomical offers in their menu as well.
They both have very nice interiors, but Teatro gets extra points for an awesome women's toilet with deodorant, wet wipes, and pads, as well as stunning arcades and wall-sized pictures of Greek statues.
Teatro’s name obviously comes from being by the theatre, while Kod Zajca is named after the nobleman Ivan Zajc - a 19th-century composer, conductor, director... an important figure in Croatia’s classical music. After all, the theatre we are talking about bears his name, and right there in front of our cafe/bar trio, you will find a small park with his statue in the middle.
So for a person of culture, enjoying the distant sounds of a play or a concert while sipping on your favorite drink is a must-do. Just keep in mind that it gets really crowded before and after performances, as many people of culture like to do the same!
