When you think of clothes shopping in Rome, you probably picture Via del Corso (Zara, H&M, Gap etc), Monti (vintage) or the area around Piazza di Spagna for designer clothes such as Dolce & Gabbana. But some of the best boutiques are tucked away in residential neighbourhoods, such as Fairytale in Testaccio. When I’m in need of a new dress and have money to spend, this is my first port of call.

Fairytale is an upmarket women’s clothes shop near Piazza Testaccio, selling a bit of everything. Items such as dresses and coats tend to be expensive, while the shoes, jewellery and other accessories are more affordable. But this isn’t where I come for everyday clothes (though I would if I could afford it!) Fairytale is a place to treat yourself to beautiful, quality clothes. Most of the clothes are from French brands (Séssun and Des Petits Hauts), but you can also find gorgeous knitwear from the Italian designer Chiara Bertani.

Everything I’ve bought here – usually in the sales – has lasted for years and got me lots of compliments. I actually have to ration my visits, as it’s hard to enter Fairytale without falling in love!
