Sometimes you need a hug on a plate. One of my favorite comfort foods was always my Dad’s Southern fried chicken. And now I have Freddy’s. Freddy does things to chicken in an OG southern US way that is rarely done well. They have crunchy and juicy chicken, but even more, they have pazazz. If you look at their menu and think wait what? I do not blame you.
They have chicken and waffles with icing sugar and maple syrup, and it is the best ding dang chicken and waffles on this side of the Atlantic. Mac and cheese burger? Why not. One of the other eyebrow-raising dishes is the chicken sandwich which has glazed doughnuts instead of a bun. It may sound crazy, but one bite is all it takes to be convinced that Freddy is a genius. The loaded waffles fries with honey kimchi., crispy chicken skin, or surf and turf are all lip-smacking good. Warning the hot sauce is HOT. At all costs, leave room for dessert, three words; deep fried Oreos. Hmm hmm, yes you read that right. Trust me, you want this. If you cannot make it to the US, find your way to Freddy’s right here in Rotterdam for some southern comfort and hospitality.
