In 2018 the Wilhelminapier got a place where one could get a stack of pancakes without having to cross the Erasmus bridge -- at Rolph’s Deli by HMB. The interior is black and gold and with pictures of the New York skyline, the connection between the Big Apple and Manhattan at the Maas -a stone’s throw from Hotel New York- are easily made. The concept, order and pay at the bar makes it an effective way to ensure you get your order in line with your needs: either grab and go or settle down in the deli itself and enjoy the atmosphere.
The pancakes are lovely and fluffy and the toppings are to your choosing. For me, stacking them with either Nutella and strawberries or blueberries, bacon and maple syrup are fail-proof combinations of pure indulgence. The French toast loaded with fresh fruit makes it feel like a healthy option. If you are in a more savoury mood, there are poached egg options to suit your mood. My favourites are the eggs Benedict with either salmon or jamon iberico and the All-in Breakfast for those days when you are not quite sure what you want apart from wanting it all.
The smoothies are very tasty and filling, a great grab-and-go option for me. Check out the displayed options on your way to the bar and you’ll probably leave with something to enjoy at home.
