Bar Garvanut i Gyuleto Sofia – A sports bar/pub mix

Finding a good bar with alternative music, but also with a range of quality beers, is not too easy in Sofia. It is even harder finding a pub offering a variety of beers AND cocktails, but also good alternative music. You always either choose the music or the beers. Well, at Garvanut i Gyuleto you can enjoy both at the same time.

The name of the place literally translates into The Raven and Cannonball in English, a typically odd pub name. It is located in central Sofia, in an underground floor, quite spacious, but atmospheric with its wooden furniture and a small corner library (peculiar for a pub, but why not?). The place is equipped with a snooker table, darts and some plasma TVs to watch football on. They even have a video wall for the biggest soccer fans.

Garvanut i Gyuleto hosts live gigs, just to add to the range of activities you can enjoy here. The only thing missing so far is food, but I was recently assured by one of the bartenders that they are working on that. The music is often alternative or rock, so do not come here if you are into radio hits. They serve Bulgarian craft beers and Guinness on tap, which is rarely found anywhere in Sofia.

All in all, I recommend the place for a pleasant evening out both in summer and winter, either for football watching or just enjoying a quality beer and some good music with friends.
