Tallinn Upper Lighthouse Tallinn

Tallinn from a new angle

Inna from Tallinn

Hi, I’m Inna — your bird-loving guide in Tallinn.I’m in love with this city. With its red roofs, medieval towers, and sea breeze, it feels like a page out of a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. I really enjoy writing for Spotted by Locals — it gives me the chance to share my favorite corners of the city, to write about places that feel good to me or where I spent my childhood. These spots ...
"Tallinn Upper Lighthouse is one of Estonia’s oldest, with 182 steps, a balcony, and breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the beautiful sea!"

My son is a big fan of lighthouses, and this year, the doors of one of Tallinn’s lighthouses were finally opened for us.

It’s not a very big lighthouse, but it has a balcony — and that’s the magic. From there, you can enjoy views of Tallinn from a whole new angle, on the opposite side of the city.

The Tallinn Upper Lighthouse (Tallinna ülemine tuletorn) is one of the oldest range lights in Estonia, guiding sailors for more than 180 years! It leads ships safely to the Port of Tallinn and is both an important navigation landmark and a piece of cultural heritage.

Built in 1896 from limestone in the Lasnamäe area, the tower stands 80 meters above sea level and works together with the Tallinn Lower Lighthouse to form a range line. Inside, there is a spiral staircase of 182 steps — and once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over the city and the sea.

A small tower with a big story — and one more lighthouse checked off my son’s list

Kyuho's kitchen

"Gotsu" is one of not many Korean restaurants in Tallinn. If you like spicy food, I definitely recommend going for the burning kimchi stew. Pets allowed.

"Hell Hunt" is my go-to option when I just can't come up with any ideas of where to go for a drink or food in Tallinn. A chaotic, cheerful pub/restaurant.
