In the beginning of the '90s, Depeche Mode was at the foundation of my musical taste. In Estonia these Basildon guys were the real style icon. I guess it could be an interesting idea for some social anthropologists to analyse the phenomenon of DM in Eastern Europe, but the idea of opening a strictly DM music bar sounds natural here. So, if you are over 35 and ready to get hammered with loud chanting "Enjoy the Silence" 5 times per night, then this place is for you.
Originally the bar was opened in 1999, and in 2001 it had its first night of glory, when right before a concert in Tallinn the Mode band members partied here the whole night long. Since then the bar has moved to another place, but has remained a local nest for synth-pop apologists. Once in 2012 I even accidentally came face-to-face with Theo Hutchcraft, the singer of Hurts here.
DM Baar is one of the most well-known and advertised bars in Tallinn and it is easy to find: it is near Town Hall Square on one of the oldest streets of Tallinn called Voorimehe. Also on this street you can check out a vinyl second hand and local Estonian design souvenir shops.
