Close to Tampere'scity centre, you can find a really fun place: the Tohloppi ice skating track. Yes, it's a real lake on which you can ice skate.
This outdoor track was opened in 2016 for the people living in the area, but soon, it was a success for people coming from other parts of the city, too. It's a place where you can rent your skating equipment and skate on real ice around the whole lake.
"The man behind the ice skating rink" is actually my schoolmate. He wanted to have activities for his family during the wintertime close to where he lives. This is how the story of the Tohloppi ice skating rink started.
Especially during the weekends, families enjoy the day together outdoors. Springtime, to me, is the best time to go, as the sun actually warms you up a bit. You can find a kiosk that sells hot juice (very Finnish in wintertime), coffee, grilled sausages etc. In other words, you don't need to worry if you get hungry while skating!
So if you want to experience something unique and close to nature (especially on a sunny winter weekend), you should definitely hop on a bus from the city centre of Tampere and come to Lake Tohloppi.
