One of the most interesting contemporary art galleries in Tel Aviv, Inga Gallery opened in 2006 by two women with a real passion for art.
They represent a diverse group of artists from Israel, including painters, sculptors and photographers.
They curate and select exhibitions by both emerging artists that are thought-provoking and original. I’ve been to several of their exhibition opening nights over the years and if you want to meet people from the local art scene, go there on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays. In the middle of the week, the gallery is relatively quiet and has a nice, laid-back atmosphere.
The gallery is spacious enough but not too big, and is located on a side street in the south of Tel Aviv near an industrial zone, in a building that used to be a textile factory.
It may feel like a rough area at first, but it's more of a trendy area these days, with the signs of a rather slow-paced urban gentrification. Art lovers will find that many of Tel Aviv’s top galleries have moved to that part of the city in recent years, turning it into a cultural hub. That’s why Inga Galley is a perfect spot to start a nice stroll between art galleries and artisan workshops in southern Tel Aviv.
