This beautiful monkey mural caught my eye while I was walking around taking photos of cool buildings in Tel Aviv.

I found it in a strange location – on a wall in a high school yard, right in the centre of the city. But that’s the only unusual thing about it…

It is a legal piece of street art, and it is part of a series of murals created by international artist Ekaterina Sky, who’s on a mission “to reconnect people with nature and wildlife” through her art.

She paints vivid murals of wildlife animals at different locations around the world. The series is called “Animalize World Mural Tour”.

The monkey was chosen as there are no monkeys in the wild in Israel. The sign next to the mural explains that monkeys that were smuggled into the country or used at testing labs are now being taken care of at a special shelter.

I love that this piece of art isn’t just beautiful, but also spreads the word about a subject that most people know nothing about.
