Bar Bowie opened in mid-October 2023 in The Hague. It’s a place open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner or even just drinks. The owners are quite well known in The Hague, as they also run the popular cafés Walter Benedict and Café Franklin (if you get a chance, check them out too). Its team describes Bowie as a restaurant and wine bar in the modern French-Mediterranean style.
Their dishes range from standard scrambled eggs on sourdough bread to steak tartare with quail eggs — classic French cuisine meets Italian and Spanish vibes. The restaurant is cosy and pleasantly quiet — they’ve done a great job soundproofing the ceiling. I find restaurants quite often too loud and noisy. Who actually enjoys yelling across the table the entire evening to keep a dinner conversation going? Not at Bar Bowie! This ambience also makes you feel at ease and want to stay longer — whether it’s for an afternoon coffee or late-night drink at the bar. Their wine selection has a big focus on French wines, but Bowie also offers delicious Austrian or South African wines.
Bowie’s location is to the west of the centre of The Hague, located on a street corner on Regentesselaan. It hasn’t been warm enough yet, but I can imagine that, come spring and summer, Bowie will be a great spot to sit outside, as they have a lovely, sunny terrace.
