Four years ago, Petit opened its doors in Amsterdam. Its owner and creator, a woman who has had a passion for baking her whole life, could no longer tolerate milk products and certain sweets after an illness and had to reinvent her baking dreams, leaving behind traditional concepts of patisserie. She opened her first Petit store in Amsterdam, which was a huge success.

Her creations are either vegan, gluten-free or dairy-free and taste exceptional. She opened a second café in The Hague in November 2023, located in the buzzing Zeeheldenkwartier district. This Petit café is bigger: there’s the bakery at the back, a lovely seating area, bathrooms and the beautiful-looking shop at the front. The coffee is delicious – third wave coffee fans will not be disappointed. For breakfast, Petit offers croissants or granola with fruit, for lunch there are two tosti options (the Dutch version of a grilled sandwich).

While drinks are average priced, the sweets are not cheap, ranging from € 4.60 to € 9. That being said, you can expect products of the highest quality and don’t even have to feel bad about indulging your sweet tooth. I discovered Petit in the first week of November (which was when they first opened) and have been back many times since. It is a beautiful place, clean, stylish and with a unique concept.
