Spooky & Sue is a second-hand clothing shop located on a street corner, overlooking a canal. It’s easy enough to reach by public transport (the tram stop is 50 metres away) and, as it is located in the hip “Zeeheldenkwartier” area, it’s close to many other shops, cafés and pretty squares.

Like “Oxfam” in the UK or “Humana” in Germany and Austria, the Netherlands does have “Kringloop”, a chain of second-hand stores selling items like furniture, games, shoes and clothes. There are plenty of “Kringloop” stores in The Hague, but for real gems, unique outfits and also outfits that look like they’ve never actually been worn, it is definitely worth checking out small independent stores such as Spooky & Sue.

Spooky & Sue has a regularly changing collection and more than adequate fitting room space. What I particularly like about Spooky & Sue is that their items are displayed in an orderly way and clothes racks never seem to overflow. You don’t have to fight your way through piles of jumpers or sift through clothes racks, bending under the weight of too many items hanging on them.

Prices for items range from € 5 to € 100. It is worth noting that they often have a sale section out front – usually one or two clothes racks with items on sale. Each item, sometimes jumpers, blazers or even dresses, costs € 10.
