This is a new art installation by a local Vancouver artist, Douglas Coupland, by some new apartment buildings along SW Marine Drive. I like public art. There is something about it that gives you a sense of the city you’re in and this installation is no exception, is so noticeable and modern.
I saw it first riding in from the airport on the Skytrain going towards downtown. You can miss it, especially on a bright sunny day. Perhaps it’s that I’m a magpie for all things shiny but I really like that it’s a reproduction of the actual hollow tree in Stanley Park. When I see it as I come home from the airport it really tells me that I’m in Vancouver and there is nothing like the feeling of being home.
Stop by if you have a moment, take a picture here and then at the one in Stanley Park, I think that would make a cool souvenir to show everyone back home, the real wooden tree up against the recreation.
