From August 8 to 18, everyone who doesn't have the money/time to visit the world's second-largest continent, but has always wanted to experience the African vibe, can come to Donausinsel in Vienna. You will see colorful clothes, listen to some samba, soul, or reggae rhythms, and try sensational food like Fufu or Pof-pof.
Things to do and see: Rummage through the offer of the many trades at the bazaar, get your face painted or learn how to make giant soap bubbles. You can also join a handicraft/drumming/dance workshop. Plenty is going on, which guarantees fun for the whole family.
In the evenings, you can enjoy concerts and some partying after the shows. Ticket prices at the box office vary according to the performing bands but are in the 25 - 30€ range. What to expect at Africa Days: a really incredible atmosphere and a great variety of food; I just couldn't stop eating.
How to find it: Take the subway line U6, get off at the station called “Neue Donau,” and walk on the island in the direction the Danube flows for only a few hundred meters. Don't worry, you can't really miss the little white tents.
Entrance is free on Mondays (donations are welcome! :)
