Astro Doughnuts and Fried Chicken is one of my favorite inexpensive, grab-and-go options when I’m near the National Mall. As the name suggests, you can certainly find a variety of delicious doughnuts here but the fried chicken is not to be overlooked.
My regular order is the fried chicken sandwich on a doughnut bun with honey mustard sauce. Â It feels like the perfect taste of both doughnuts and chicken in one order. Astro Doughnuts also offers chicken fingers and various combinations of thighs, drumsticks, breasts, and wings. Sandwiches can also be served on a cheddar biscuit or doughnut with Old Bay seasoning. Old Bay seasoning is a Maryland staple so this is the perfect chance to try some without leaving the city!
There isn’t much seating at Astro Doughnuts so I like to take my food to the National Mall, eat on a bench, and people-watch. They have two locations (Metro Center and Falls Church, Virginia) and have recently expanded to Los Angeles.
