Dupont Circle is home to many major businesses, high end restaurants and a seemingly endless selection of happy hour spots. You’ll find one of my favorite happy hour spots on Florida Avenue. There’s a small, cozy whiskey bar called McClellan’s Retreat. It sits right in the middle of busy Dupont Circle but its friendly staff and rustic decor creates the perfect neighborhood bar vibe.
McClellan’s Retreat has an enormous selection of whiskey, rye, and bourbon but they also offer vodka, rum, gin, and tequila. If you aren’t sure where to start, you can order one of their house cocktails or try one of their seasonal cocktails. The seasonal cocktails rotate monthly and you can keep up with them on their great Instagram channel (@mccretreat). If you need a recommendation, be sure to ask the general manager, Brian, who is almost always behind the bar. He’s always willing to help visitors find a new favorite drink!
Don’t miss their happy hour Monday to Friday from 16:00 to 19:00.
