Confession time: I only discovered “U Dvorištu” because I was looking for “Medenko” ice cream (sidenote: “Medenko” is an incredible ice cream company based in Samobor, a little town not far from Zagreb).
It turned out everything about “U Dvorištu” is great, though. When the weather’s warm, their courtyard is a lovely place to be. Sit back and enjoy the quiet in the middle of the busy town while sipping your beer or devouring your (aforementioned) ice cream. The Cogito coffee, which they brew themselves, is excellent.
The inside is modern and hipsterish, along with hipsterish waiters. This is either positive or negative, depending on how much you love guys with big beards. Personally, I find the waiters very friendly and I enjoy the music they play as well. From time to time there are cultural events organised (poetry reading, book presentations). The internet connection is solid, too, so it’s not a bad place to work.
You’ll find “U dvorištu” hidden in one of the downtown backyards. Let the cats guide your way! (Fun fact: at one point I counted six cats, all piled up on top of one another, staring at me while I drank my (delicious) coffee.)
