Hidden gem
It took the visit of a Spotter friend (thanks Renata!) in Zurich for me to find out about this place. In my defense, it had only opened two weeks before. Schnupf, hidden down a side alley past Mars Bar yet only a stone's throw from buzzing Langstrasse, has been there for ages as a slightly downtrodden restaurant for train workers. The crew that recently took over has done a great job of retaining a lot of the place's character while adding style and modern touches.
These days, you can get steak and fries if you're hungry or just go for beer and cocktails. With Schnupf being located next to the railway tracks, you will be surprised to hear that the small garden is an enchanting place to sit back and chat with your friends. Indoors, the music is low enough for a conversation, something I have come to appreciate greatly. The same is true for service that is friendly and efficient, and again Schnupf doesn't disappoint.
Schnupf is definitely worth seeking out if you are after an evening of talking and tasty food and drinks in a pleasant environment. In other words, it's a place by friends, to hear about from and to visit with friends.
