First, allow me to serve you a little history lesson to whet your appetite: Venham mais 5 is a phrase that carries a lot of the Portuguese culture within it. It bears a historical load relating to fascism and oppression and it’s one of the many symbols of the revolution that ended the dictatorship and lead Portugal back to freedom in 1974 (read more about it here and here).
Literally translated though, it means ‘bring 5 more’. And that’s indeed an appropriate name for this particular restaurant, growingly famous for its ‘pregos’: in essence, a steak on bread. The ‘prego’ at Venham mais 5 has a couple of things that make it almost impossible to eat only one (and no, being small is not one of them). You’ll want to keep ’em coming!
Venham mais 5 is definitely not about a fancy atmosphere, it’s not about the space or the decor and it’s definitely not about the service, which can be very hit or miss. Venham mais 5 is all about experiencing the ‘prego’.
The slightly toasted, perfectly crunchy bread. The extremely tender meat that melts in your mouth like butter. The beautifully decadent Serra da Estrela cheese with its uniquely intense flavor… Be prepared for a food-gasm. You’ll be asking for more as soon as you take the first bite. And if you’re like me, you’ll find yourself wanting to go back and… Venham mais 5!
Venham mais 5 has recently expanded to welcome even more hungry guests so really, there are no excuses not to go.
