Kordegarda (English: guardhouse), a part of National Centre of Culture, is a very involved and a very young place. It cultivates and supports actions which back up young art and actions for the society. For example: now there is an art exhibition by Mirosław Bałka, one of the best-known Polish artists, who for this occasion chose works of young artists from the Art Academy (ASP) in Warsaw. In this way a very established name in the world of art promotes new artists.

What I personally find very interesting about Kordegarda is their book swap – bring one, take one. You can get rid of unwanted and disliked books and take some back with you.

For those of you who have just finished their studies Kordegarda offers courses in CV- and application-writing and lectures on state insurance. Make sure you check their website for more workshops, concerts and exhibitions!

Opened by Roma Gąsiorowska, a Polish artists performing, among other in TR and in films, WAMP is an acting school and a place to “broaden your art and soul horizons”. The place consists of a vintage clothes shop, a yoga school (tantra yoga/sex spirit are also there), a place to perform and take part in all kinds of workshops, a cafe and a language school. 

Every last Saturday of the month your old clothes can be sold between 15:00 – 19:30. If some of your clothes are not be accepted in the shop, you can exchange it with other participants between 19:30 – 21:30.

So many things in one, when usually it’s difficult to cope with one thing – I have some doubts concerning the name subtitle of the school: elite acting school, as it tries to be something extraordinary, though accompanied by so many different things that do not necessarily match it… Let’s see how it goes and keep our fingers crossed for this original idea called WAMP.

If all of a sudden you become hungry for art you should visit Teatr Narodowy (National Theatre) as soon as possible.

After a turbulent history in 1997 the National Theatre was reopened under the artistic directorship of Jerzy Grzegorzewski. Grzegorzewski formulated the programme of the national stage which is continued by his successors.

“We are constantly looking for ways of expressing his intentions in a modern stage arrangement, by a modern gesture, by the modern way of speaking on the stage (…) What I have in mind here is a manner that does not dismiss the whole experience of 20th century art, that does not reject the changes that have occurred as a result of the new experience in which the generations, living after Wyspiański, have taken part up to our time..”

A great number of shows have English support in subtitles or English guides.

That’s why you’ll find the most important and biggest performances of Poland right here. Of course this building should also satisfy fans of classic architecture, because the XIX century building is one of the most well know projects by Italian architect Antonio Corazzi.
