Now this is an amazing little hidden restaurant on a quiet street in Kaminia, a few blocks off Peiraios street. We’ve been here with fellow Spotters, friends and family on different occasions and it’s always been a top experience.
It’s got absolutely everything going for it: the likable young brothers Lambrou who’ve been working here all their life, having inherited Zoodochos Pigi from the family; the recipes themselves, Greek dishes with tiny little twists that work oh-so-well (like the honey baby potatoes, the vegetarian dolmadakia, the beetroot mousse or the French fries topped with fried egg); the quiet, dimly lit, cozy neighborhood street it’s on that creates just the right ambience; the satisfying portions, and the prices!
Not pictured is the she-sheep – sorry, “ewe” just plains sounds wrong – provatina burger that Marilena ordered, but she did insist that I mention the Lebanese pitas (pictured). The yoghurt they use here is also a bit more sour than usual – and I love sour!
“Zoodochos Pigi” is Greek for “the source/fountain that contains life”. Many Orthodox Christian churches around Athens and Greece share this name. Oh boy, do I wish they were all branches of this source in particular…
