I'd been looking for a good spot for studying and reading in the wider Akropolis/Koukaki area for quite a long time, but with limited success. Athens is famous for its insane number of bars and cafés everywhere, but few are what you'd call quiet, let alone places suitable for putting in some time for yourself and for enjoying the company of a good book. Enter Little Tree.
This cafe, opened in summer '16, immediately caught my eye with its cute decoration and large windows before I'd even set my foot inside. Difficult to say which part it does better: being a super-cozy, quiet café, or a cute little bookshop. On the one hand: coffee, homemade cakes, pies, teas and their trademark hot lemonade, and on the other: shelves upon shelves of beautiful publications ranging from children's books, YA novels, Greek literature, poetry, philosophy and politics, among many others.
Admittedly, if you can't read Greek, the bookshop part might not be as interesting for you since the books in English are few and far between. They do exist, however, and maybe you can turn discovering them into a challenge to find the perfect gift.
One of the best parts? You can actually see the Akropolis Museum through those large windows or, even better, the welcoming tables outside when the weather allows it (which is pretty often!)
To close off: "leaf" and "page" can both be roughly translated into Greek as fyllo - a book of leaves or a tree of pages, then?
