It took me to move to Brussels to discover one of the finest Chinese dishes: the hotpot. Located in the student areas of Cimitiere d Ixelles, chez Monsieur Yang is a restaurant dedicated to this old tradition. A simple but still warm inside of the restaurant welcomes you to this Chinese corner of Brussels. All tables, as the name for the restaurant prepares you for, have in fact all you need to cook a hotpot.

My first time there, I let the waitress (who was super nice) help me dive into the menu. The idea is quite simple: you order a bouillon (the broth), which can have different bases, including meat or veggie options. Then, you add the sauces and what you would like to eat. And then, well, the magic happens.

As most of the dishes are raw, you can cook them, as you wish, in the broth. I chose the broth with mushrooms and then ordered one of the fixed menus they proposed, getting a mix of veggies and meat. It was delicious, as all the flavors came together perfectly mixed. I am not a fan of spicy food, so the waitress was very good at suggesting the right option to have the right balance of flavors.
