The Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio is architect Frank Lloyd Wright's first independent project, located right outside of Chicago. However, you can easily take the Green Line from downtown to Oak Park, which connects the city to this architectural gem.
For this spot, I am a little biased because I've been giving tours here since I was in middle school, so I know a lot about the high-quality of tours this museum has been sharing since the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust formed and opened this home to the public in the 1980s. For one hour, you walk through the house and the connected workspace, where Wright launched his career. A guide will point out what influenced Wright as an architect while also pointing out the small details of the space and how Wright matured his legacy during the first twenty years of his career. Oak Park is filled with lots of Frank Lloyd Wright homes, but seeing the genesis of Wright's career is something special. You'll be mesmerized by his grand ceilings and learn about how he developed the Prairie Style.
Architect lovers, if you are in Chicago and have some time to spare in this nearby suburb, make sure to grab a ticket and get ready to explore this quintessential turn-of-the-century-style home.
