According to the Table, Donkey and Stick website, this place is "a neighborhood restaurant offering seasonal fare and a unique selection of beer, wine and spirits honoring the eating and drinking traditions of the Alps." Whenever I'm asked to describe this place, I'd agree: it's a restaurant with European fusion flair in Logan Square. In particular, I'd recommend ordering a drink off their extensive wine list and also sharing a charcuterie and/or cheese plate if you are with a group.
My favorite aspect of this place, however, is the overall aesthetic that seems to pair nicely with their menu as well. The building itself has a whimsical facade that mimics the origin of the restaurant's name (which comes from a Brothers Grimm tale). There are three areas to sit for dinner: the front bar room decorated with avant-garde paintings, the patio, and the communal table-style dining room. Each space provides its own take on the neighborhood feel.
Another great aspect of this restaurant is the staff. Whenever I've come here for dinner, each waiter has been eager to provide recommendations with approachability. While the menu changes seasonally, some of their staple dishes include their potato latkes, croquettes, and fried polenta. It's my new favorite spot for a celebration, date, or friend catch-up.
