Salsa might not be the first thing you think of when you visit Edinburgh, but if you’re looking for a vibrant evening waterhole, then I strongly recommend Boteco; tapas bar by day, Latin music club by night! With people flocking from all over Europe to work in Scotland’s capital city, it’s no surprise that a place to experience the Latin atmosphere has popped up on our scene!
Located in the Old Town, Boteco serves up tasty, traditional Brazilian tapas throughout the day and turns into a lively little underground club at night. Their small plates are great for a quick mid-afternoon pick-me-up whilst touring the city – I recommend the fried cassava (fried potato) and their tasty grilled vegetables.
Those looking to practice their best salsa moves will be delighted to learn that the club hosts weekly Bachata and Salsa classes, running all the way from beginner to advanced levels throughout the night. The club also offers free entry up until 11pm, meaning you needn’t worry about picking up the exorbitant entry costs that some of the city centre’s nightclubs charge. If (like me) you’re looking to dance the night away to the most recent reggaeton tunes, make sure you nip down on a Friday night for their mix of samba, reggaeton, electro Latino, R&B and Brazilian house.
