This is a lovely restaurant in a really nice part of Edinburgh. Stockbridge is a very middle class village just off the New Town that is highly desirable as a neighbourhood, but that means it's not for everyone and it's not the cheapest part of town. Thai food typically doesn't come as a budget option in Edinburgh, and Nok's Kitchen is no exception in that respect, but it's great.
Their mixed starter at £9.95, for example, is a fairly hefty price tag for some, but it's amazing. A platter of a bit of everything - chicken satay, prawn tempura, Thai fish cake, curry puff and beef salad. It's delicious.
And their signature dessert is the deep-fried coconut ice cream. Now that is something special.
The mains are not particularly experimental, just really good and the service is a delight. I'm not sure if it's family owned but it feels it.
You'll probably have to book because it's always busy.
Before you visit (and if it's during the day) a trip to the nearby IJ Mellis Cheese shop is a must. Something for supper!
