Alla sosta dei Papi is not a bar and it’s not just a wine shop. Sure, they sell local wines both in bottle and bulk wine. And, yes, they have a good selection of Tuscan products from cheeses to balsamic vinegar, but Alla Sosta dei Papi is something more.
It’s the kind of place you visit for an aperitivo once a week, for its laid back atmosphere, (the nearby parking spots and the proximity to the centre) and that classic Florentine vibe, that you don’t need much more than a glass of wine, a few bruschetta and a few laughs to have fun. If you want to “splurge”, they serve trays with a good selection of cold cuts and cheeses, also Wednesday and Saturday are “coccoli night”! (fried dough served with prosciutto and stracchino).
It’s always nice to spend time there, the owners make you feel welcome, and if you’re lucky enough to find a spot at the tables outside, the energy of this neighborhood is mesmerizing; I can spend hours sitting on that stool hearing people talk, laughing and dancing around me.
It’s a common spot for college students and for graduates to toast at their graduation. If you see someone with a laurel crown on their head, now you know what’s happening.
Alla Sosta dei Papi stays open until 22:00, just in time for the next destination. It might not be the peak of your night out, but in my opinion it can be an important part of it.
