If you are in Geneva and pressed for time, go for a quick visit to the top of the nearby hill called Saleve, which is technically in France, but jointly managed by Genevan and French authorities.
As you can see in the picture, just as you reach the top of Saleve Mountain, you have this beautiful cafe on arrival from where you have a panoramic view of Geneva. You can still view the magical fountain Jet d'éau from afar, albeit smaller than the usual dimensions you get used to seeing it while living in the city.
Bus #8 goes there from Geneva and the closest stop is called Veyrier Douane in Switzerland, just a short walk away. It's not just the panoramic view that you get to enjoy from the top, but also the hike over the top through a well-identified trail, in addition to a chance to do some paragliding through an experienced company that runs adventure sports activities at the top.
Many people also ditch the cable car and hike all the way to the top on foot and this is something that several locals like to do on a Sunday morning - so if you find yourself in town for a weekend, you know what to do on a Sunday morning - provided that you do not party too hard the night before. There is also an astronomical observatory at the top open to members & a restaurant called L'observatoire offering a great "fait-maison" (French for homemade) lemonade.
