Oxfam is the well known charity shop chain we see everywhere in all our cities and a fantastic job they do. Usually they are the same second hand clothing, brick a brac and book shops we see on every high street. This is a charity shop devoted to music, the music lover and vinyl, loads of vinyl.
Vinyl, as everyone knows, has made a big comeback. We’re all dusting off our old turntables and giving those crackly, warped and dog eared records a well-deserved spin again. This shop is a little cabin of wax delights. It’s one of those record shops where you can rummage and flick for an hour or so to find a wee gem or a whiff of nostalgia for a forgotten disc of your youth. Old Beatles classics, Rush, Willie Nelson, Icicle Works, X Ray Specs and Kylie Minogue stand shoulder to shoulder in perfect harmony! There are LPs, 7 inch singles, imports and coloured discs aplenty.
The shop also sells CDs, DVDs, tapes, sheet music and occasionally the odd actual musical instrument for those budding Bob Dylan’s or wannabe Scary Spices. It’s also the place to find like minded aficionados, DJs looking for something to sample and the odd bloke like me wanting to rekindle a memory with a forgotten tune.
Based in the West End of Glasgow, Oxfam Music Shop is well worth a look, a listen and a bargain always to be had.
And don’t forget you can make donations or even volunteer.
