Seven is a charm. I guess so, since seven is the number of these incredibly charming interconnected buildings of Hamburgs oldest laundry in Hamburg Lokstedt. "Wäscherei Vollmer", opened in 1840, has recently undergone a shift towards becoming a public space with the aim to establish community, culture and art in my neighbourhood. Right now they hand out the best organic coffee and home made cakes. You can sit at the terrace in the sunshine under old vines. Or use the spacious interior with several rooms in a homey atmosphere.
The owner Brigitte Vollmer has set up an association to transform the area (which seem to be listed buildings) into a place where community is built. So each coffee supports exactly this.
There have been local artists on stage already to do literary quizzes and music. So come over and engage yourself. This place is spacious, charming and old with most creative staff who serve coffee, cake - and love.
Bonus: got dirty laundry from your travels? The laundry is still open for private clients so you can come by with it and get away with clean sheets (if the order list of the laundry at that day allows).
While they work on it you are enjoying the place and the charming neighbourhood which invites you to stay a bit longer. Take a book from the shelfs. Unwind. Or stroll around the parks in the area and then go home clean and happy.
