The international garden exhibition which took place in 2013 in Wilhelmsburg is long gone, but one thing that stayed is the beautiful park with ponds of all sorts to relax and chill at.
Now it is called "Inselpark Wilhelmsburg" and I go there to hang out in tranquility and watch the water lilies grow. In 2013 I used to work during the exhibition and did workshops with children from near and far. It was crowded then, but it is not very crowded now, even though Wilhelmsburg itself is getting busier and busier, but not in this park, and not on the lake, even though the park has many different play areas for children, a climbing center and a skate park.
Plus: the gardeners are doing a really nice job with all the plants here. Check out the facilities and follow the loop, a 6.5km circuit through all the different areas. You can enter and exit the park 24/7 but not all entrances are open all the time. So don't panic if you stand in the park in the middle of the night. There is a way out. Always. And watching the sunrise might be nice, too...
