Aaah, this place. It works magic: Sitting near the waters of the Elbe, with an iced coffee in your hand, among flowers and butterflies. The buzzing city and the harbour to your right seem far away. Let them be. You are amidst a green wilderness. Sitting on a pontoon.
Entenwerder is a not-so-close park outside the city, which is nice but not spectacular. The nice people of the Thomas i-Punkt store (check the Thomas i Punkt article) had the great idea to redesign a pontoon on the shores of this park and opened it to the public in July of 2015. The result is a real triumph and the Café/Bar soon became one of the Hamburg hot-spots for all seasons.
With a fine eye for design and context they built a refuge where you'll just love to sit in awe and watch the ships float by. You could spend the whole day here as they serve breakfast, little lunch dishes, cakes and arguably one of the best coffees in Hamburg (courtesy of the PUBLIC baristas). In the evening you might get the treat of a nice background DJ-set, a red sunset and a pale moonrise.
Getting there is easy if you have a bike. Just start following the bike lane (all along the Elbe) starting at the 'Deichtorhallen' near the central station. It is so worth it.
In September 2015 they added a 3-story pavilion of gold. Simple eye-candy.
Even if the weather is rougher, this place is always worth the ride.
