Located in Hamburg’s Oberhafen district, the Hanseatische Materialverwaltung (HMV) is a unique, non-profit repository that rescues and repurposes set pieces, props, and materials from theaters, film productions, and events. Since its founding in 2013, HMV has provided artists, schools, and cultural institutions with affordable access to these resources, promoting sustainability and creativity.
Beyond its role as a materials depot though, HMV serves as a vibrant cultural venue, hosting events like spring festivals, concerts, parties and workshops. They just recently moved back to their original location after renovations. During the warmer months, I love relaxing at their after-work get-togethers on Thursdays from 6pm – grab a drink and enjoy the beautifully decorated sun deck! Also, make sure to check the website for the events. But I think it’s even worth it to just take a look at their unique repository.
