I love visiting art shows and even though I really like the well-established museums, I'm also a big fan of art made by people who are not so famous yet – with art being displayed in small galleries or even, like in this case, in a university.
The HFBK (Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts) is one of these places I love to visit on a regular basis. At this university, you can study subjects like Design, Photography, Graphic Art or Painting. Every once in a while, there are huge exhibits, like the Annual Exhibition, where all students present their current work for a couple of days, or the Graduate Show, where all the graduates present their final work. Sometimes it's just crazy art hard to understand for an ordinary person like me, but I usually find a lot of works that are simply amazing.
For these events they usually have guided tours as well (which are mainly in German, however) and there are usually after parties, which are worth staying – great music in an artsy atmosphere, cocktails for student-compatible prices and the art students are usually a lot of fun to hang out with - what else do you need? Just check their website for their events!
